Today was a busy day for Mommy, so Alex was left to her own devices for the most part. She did very well reading to herself, throwing things around and generally keeping herself out of trouble. even stayed off the stairs, which is miraculous on any day, let alone a day when I'm doing my million necessary things. She must have known I was making bread that she'd eat by the head-sized pieces later......
Her shining moment today was when the neighbor pulled up to his house. She proclaimed "truck" from her spot at the front door, then turned, looked at me hopefully and asked "Daddy? Dad? Dadoo?" I told her that, no, that was not Dad at all. "Not Dadoo?" Now, I'm not entirely sure if I heard her right or just imagined that, but I swear that's most likely what she said. Heck, she told me later (I think) "That's mac and cheese!" but perhaps I'm adding the extra words in my mind. I don't know, she saw a stack of music books the other day and said "Music." so I think anything's possible.
Anyway, it was only 10 in the morning, and Dadoo was far away at work, so Alex had an anxious, long day waiting at the front door for him. Well, waiting at the front door, by the couch, on the stairs (yes, eventually she succumbed, but it took a long time) in her room, on our bed (her new favorite place to hang out, may she never ever ever ever ever ever ever sleep there) and everywhere else.
Dadoo did finally come home, a bit late. But she spent quality time with him finally, and was able to fall asleep secure in the knowledge that Dadoo is here to comfort her, should she need some love late in the night. Or, as Dadoo is likely hoping, late in the morning. :)
