While grazing on onion grass, I discovered a green shield bug. We're working on Alex's creature handling skills, so I gave it to her. She was exceedingly gentle, even when picking it up between two fingers, and she informed me that it was tickling her. Luckily, this tickling bug didn't end up like the last one (squished) but instead spent a few minutes crawling all over her hands. Here she is pointing to it, in case I forgot what I was taking a picture of, I guess. I'm sure if I could have gotten a closer picture of the bug's face, you'd see a slightly horrified look.

Again, here's Alex being a good bug handler. I can proudly say that the end of this insect adventure was not gory. The shield bug flew off into the afternoon sun, and Alex say goodbye. (She also said goodbye to the onion grass. I can't remember for sure, but I'd bet she told it to have a nice day too. She's very polite to non-human living things.)
