By Alex's Request

Sorry the picture quality is so rough. Alex asked that I take a picture of her with the giant wad of Tippy fur. It's like she's holding a kitten. Bleh.

Hats

The Varnes boys will soon both be visible from space.

Sleepy

Dancing her to sleep.

Fun Time With Daddy

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, except to say that the poor quality is probably on purpose so I couldn't really tell what was going on.

Quote of the Day : I would like that stink bug please.

March 17, 2010

Well, I have no idea why this picture loaded sideways, but oh well. You get the idea. Alex and I were also digging for worms when we weren't terrorizing shield bugs and eating onion grass. Here she is proudly showing me a clump of dirt that may or may not contain worms. She has recently decided that big worms are yucky but little worms are ok.
Alex and I spent a few hours outside this afternoon, and we decided that it was a good day to find something edible in the yard. As she has mostly given up eating inedible things, we focused on the onion grass. She liked it a lot, and chewed her way through a whole clump. And probably is making her room smell like onions while she sleeps. Yummy.

While grazing on onion grass, I discovered a green shield bug. We're working on Alex's creature handling skills, so I gave it to her. She was exceedingly gentle, even when picking it up between two fingers, and she informed me that it was tickling her. Luckily, this tickling bug didn't end up like the last one (squished) but instead spent a few minutes crawling all over her hands. Here she is pointing to it, in case I forgot what I was taking a picture of, I guess. I'm sure if I could have gotten a closer picture of the bug's face, you'd see a slightly horrified look.

Again, here's Alex being a good bug handler. I can proudly say that the end of this insect adventure was not gory. The shield bug flew off into the afternoon sun, and Alex say goodbye. (She also said goodbye to the onion grass. I can't remember for sure, but I'd bet she told it to have a nice day too. She's very polite to non-human living things.)

Quote of the Day: It's not raining outside, it's sunning outside.

Well, I just figured out what the problem is with teaching children the subtleties of colors. Alex just asked me for light blue frozen blueberries. Yeah, those normal blueberries are so dark and brooding that she wanted light blue ones instead. Makes perfect sense to me. And as it's my job to always do what she asks, I will now attempt to breed her some light blue blueberries that freeze well. *sigh*

Cat Food Song for Custard

"Cat food.
You eat it in your bowl,
And then you eat it.
Cat food."

She's a musical genius. The fun part about this song, not counting the words of course, was that she did actually sing it, and I'm pretty sure Custard was listening intently. She also did a song about catnip.

"Catnip.
indistinguishable babbling and a few lalalas
Catnip."

Or something like that. I can't wait until her baby brother comes to do backup vocals or perhaps plays guitar for her. It'll be awesome. :D

F Pancake

Alex was very proud of eating her pancake into the (rough) shape of an "f", so I decided to take some pictures. Her pride in workmanship really shines through here, don't you think? And no, we don't normally feed her animal crackers for breakfast, they were residual from last night. And the pancake probably has more sugar anyway. :p
Righto, well, apparently all that hard work this morning has made her extremely dirty, and she needs her first of a million showers. Not to mention that she's got her syrupy hands on my leg as I'm writing this. So, off to another exciting day of who knows what.

Alexandra Bug Tamer

Alex has loved bugs ever since she first discovered them, and stink bugs hold a special place in her heart. Probably because they love our house. In any case, she mostly squishes them with her extreme love, but today she decided a gentler approach was appropriate. Here's a picture of her "pet" stink bug. He has no name, but he still has all his legs and is not a pancake yet, so I'm pretty sure he's happy. She's obviously very proud of her bug taming abilities, and excited to learn that live insects tickle with their tiny feet. The best part - no stinkiness yet. :)
