Shut Up Cicadas

Or this might happen to you.

Highchair Take Two

King Gabe has taken the plastic Ikea throne again, this time with food. We've decided to feed him rice cereal since he is:

1. Almost always hungry.
2. Constantly lusting after our food, often leaning terribly close to attempt a snatch and grab some of my dinner. Pastrami was his goal today. I can't blame him at all. It was delicious.
3. Darn cute with rice cereal on his face, and it's infinitely easier to take pictures of him when both my hands are free.

He likes his cereal a lot. Possibly too much. In fact, during one of his first rice cereal lunches, he started screaming like, well, his sister, and I thought perhaps he was done and wanted his bottle or nothing but escape from the chair. So, like I always do, I ignored all those thoughts and tried one more time. He ate some more, then screamed. I fed him faster, he ate faster, then screamed. Finally, when the choo choo train of rice cereal made no stops between the bowl and mouth stations, he stopped screaming. It's genetic - Jeff did the same thing when he was a screaming dough-blob. I imagine some day I'll get to watch them both chuff down bowls of ice cream with the same urgency.

Side note - I really think Gabe is starting to scream and fuss like Alex. His shrillness just isn't natural!

Gabe Tries the Highchair

Since Gabe is a supported sitter now - what a big guy! - I decided to have a trial run with him in the highchair. He seemed to like it for about a minute, which after all is his usual tolerance/attention span for anything new, and I got an excellent picture of him playing with his toys. Seconds later, chaos ensued as he decided that he didn't like the highchair, the toys on the tray, the fact that he was kind of far away from the tray, and sitting by himself. A few screams and some frantic de-buckling occurred and, in record time, he was removed from the offending highchair to fuss with Mommy. Life went on, all was temporarily forgotten.

But doesn't he look happy, regal even, in his highchair? The tiny king surveying his kingdom.

The (Human) Boys

Not to leave Custard out, but he was inside lounging somewhere secret and thus noticeably absent from the pictures here. I'll have to try to get all three boys together for a photo shoot soon. Do make a note of the blurp puddle/larval spew on the carpet. Thank goodness for stain guard.

Haircut

Here's my best attempt at giving Alex a haircut that's more appropriate for 100 degree weather. Cutting her hair is a process, so I'm sure there's still some trimming to do, but I think I did pretty well for a non-professional.

QotD

Alex to Daddy: "Your pants are......pants."

Indeed. Can't argue with that iron-clad logic.

Also, I'm going to go ahead and assume that Gabe's QotD will be: "Goo." Possibly said to any one of us, but also possibly said to the baby in the mirror that he likes to grin at. Here's a picture of him drooling at Alex's (and his, let's be realistic here) toy horsie. Why the camera focuses on the drool and not the face (operator malfunction?) is beyond me, but it's still a cute picture. And really, he's fuzzy anyway, so a little extra fuzziness enhances his natural attributes.

Too Hot. Wow.

Alex didn't want to wear her hat outside, hence the action shot of her being ashamed to be in a hat. We went out for about 5 minutes, during which time Alex turned red pretty much all over and I started to feel a bit ill. Enough being enough, I decided to head inside with Alex, who was protesting vigorously but, naturally, came in anyway. It could have been the raspberries I picked that lured her in. :)

How Hot is It?

This hot. Seriously, I'm frying an egg on the driveway right now. I suspect no one will eat it, but Alex was pretty interested.

Dragon Slayer

Rawr. Tasty the Dragon has met his match for sure. Alex wan't convinced that this was ok for Gabe to do until she saw a picture of herself when she was small doing the very same thing.
